Thanks so much to everyone who attended our Moving Planet event in Durham. Above you'll see a few photos taken. Here's a link to a short video Todd Tinkham and his crew created that captured the energy of our event. Thanks, Todd! http://vimeo.com/29549600
Save the date of Saturday, September 24th please!! This is THE big one for North Carolina!

That's the date of the next big 350.org event Moving Planet.  Our team is organizing a great event here in the Triangle area!

The location will be The Pavilion at Durham Central Park at 501 Foster Street in Durham. We'll have people coming from all directions on bikes, carpooling in hybrids and biodiesel cars, walking, using public transportation (and yes, cars, too), converging together for the special event. We'll have zumba dancing and standing yoga poses, so an active movement and a grounding movement to connect with the Earth! We'll have speakers, organizations with booths, an environmental quiz, cooking with local, sustainable food,  roving ask a question and more.

We're aiming for 1,000+ people. We've talked about having an event that is multi-cultural and inter-generational, with a broad appeal. The goal is to move the planet--shift behaviors, create awareness, educate. Think local food, conservationists,  artists, faith groups, Earth advocates, solar panels, and electric cars.
Music will be provided by the wonderful percussion group, Rhythmicity. Bring your drums to join in during the jam session.  Between 2:30 and 3 we will form a large 350 using bikes and people. Rhythmicity will lead each number in a different rhythm for a fun  moving 350!! We're building a people-powered movement for climate action in the Triangle and NC!!!

The theme we're using for our event is, "What can the Triangle do for the Sphere (Earth)?" It will be so neat to see people create a canvas on the 24th using that theme!

Our featured speakers will be Alice Loyd, Food is the Key; Dennis Markatos-Soriano, East Coast Greenway Alliance; and Bo Glenn, Durham-Orange Friends of Tranist

We are connecting with partners like 350.org, Transition Durham, Transition Carrboro/Chapel Hill, NC Conservation Network, NC Sierra Club, NC Interfaith Power & Light, East Coast Greenway Alliance, Center for Environmental Farming Systems, NCWARN, Durham-Orange Friends of Transit, Bike Carrboro, Conservation Trust for NC, Durham City-County Sustainability Office, NC League of Conservation Voters, NCSU Greenpeace, Triangle Land Conservancy, Cook for Good, Scrap Exchange, Bountiful Backyards, and SEEDS.

Earlier this spring Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill received the distinction of being listed as the number one gas guzzling region in the U.S.. Not something to be proud of! Participants will have the opportunity to sign a petition in support of a half cent sales tax referendum  in Durham County this fall to pay for regional transit. Another petition will ask for the opportunity to vote on a referendum next year in Wake and Orange Counties for regional transit. The Triangle needs to work together to help reduce air pollution and the number of cars on the road!! We will share the signatures with respective county commissioners and city council members.

Bicyclists, check out this link from East Coast Greenway Alliance for bike routes and to RSVP for the ride! We thank Weaver Street Market and Great Harvest Bread Company for donating snacks for the cyclists when they arrive.

For information on the biodiesel bus, carpooling, and public transportation options check this link on the Transition Carrboro/Chapel Hill site! We don't want to have lots of cars at this event!

Please remember to bring your own reusuable water bottle. We're striving for a zero waste event!! You might want to bring a blanket to sit on.

Let me know if you will be able to attend or help on September 24th, plus, help get the word out to your friends and networks as the date gets closer by clicking on the contact the organizer link! Thanks so much!

Nos estamos conectando con organizaciones tales como 350.org, Transition Durham, Transition Carrboro/Chapel Hill, NC Conservation Network, NC Sierra Club, NC Interfaith Power & Light, East Coast Greenway Alliance, Center for Environmental Farming Systems, NCWARN, Durham-Orange Friends of Transit, Bike Carrboro, Conservation Trust for NC, Durham City-County Sustainability Office, NC League of Conservation Voters, NCSU Greenpeace, Triangle Land Conservancy, Cook for Good, Scrap Exchange and SEEDS.
