About The Event
We're coming to downtown Olympia on the 24th, by bike, by bus, by foot or even by car -- but once you're there, drop your wheels and walk. We're going to prove that the downtown can be fun and do-able on foot, lowering our carbon emissions and supporting downtown businesses at the same time. Vendors and buskers will be out in force.
From 5 to 7 PM we'll picnic in Sylvester Park. It will be decorated with Procession of the Species murals and there will be music and even a few speeches. Bring your own food -- if you can't afford it, Food Not Bombs will supply it (from the library).
Schedule:
4:45 Artesian Rumble Arkestra performs
5:45 Jack Horton reports on a new trail built today by the
Woodland Trail Greenway Association!
5:55 Chris Hawkins of Sustainable South Sound gives us
the prospects for alternative transportation in Olympia
6:05 County Commissioner Karen Valenzuela speaks on
Engineering Thurston County to Reduce Car Traffic
6:15 Dave Griffiths speaks on the Benefits of Human
Powered Transportation
6:25 Jennifer Witherspoon and her Bluegrass Band
7:00 Back Porch Swing performs performs until we all
go home!
Some streets will be closed off for special events on the 24th: 5th Ave in front of the Capitol Theater (for a Youth Film Festival) and Jefferson Street in front of Fishtale Pub, for later on in the evening. Especially good if you're on foot!
