About The Event
On Saturday, September 24, Needham will be participating in the Moving Planet event, a worldwide day of action advocating clean transportation – a planet moving under human power and clean energy, not powered by fossil fuels.
Needham Bikes is partnering with Green Needham and the Needham Community Farm to sponsor two events, a local bike ride from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and, in the afternoon, a longer bike ride to Boston Common to join the Moving Planet Rally.
The local event will be a family-friendly 1.5-mile bike ride during which Green Needham will highlight the town’s alternative energy projects and local efforts to promote sustainability. Participants will meet at the High Rock School at 10 a.m. for an informal presentation on solar energy projects (including the new panels at that school) and residential installation options.
At the Recycling and Transfer Station, we'll stop to discuss two projects there: the Wind Power Feasibility Study and a possible Solar PV installation, as well as composting and recycling initiatives. At 11:30 a.m., we'll end the ride at the Needham Community Farm for a PICNIC LUNCH (bring your own) and learn about the NCFs mission to teach residents how to live more sustainably through farm-based education programs.
For the second Moving Planet event, Needham Bikes will host a 13-mile ride from Needham Town Hall to Boston Common to join the Moving Planet Rally. Leaving at 1:00 (updated time), riders will go through the Arnold Arboretum, and then along the Southwest Corridor Park. A map of the route from Needham Town Hall to Boston Common is available here.
