Moving Planet Event:

Moving Alexandria: Old Coal to Offshore Wind Power

About The Event

Big news! On August 30th, energy company GenOn announced they would retire the dirty coal-fired power plant in North Old Town, Alexandria after years of sustained pressure from community activists. This victory is a glowing symbol of the momentum to move Virginia to a clean energy future, but our work isn’t over yet. Join the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Sierra Club and Greenpeace to celebrate this historic announcement and call for offshore wind power and clean energy solutions to replace retiring coal plants.

We’ll start at Metro Stage, across the street from the GenOn plant, where we’ll decorate ourselves and our bikes and rolling vehicles before moving to a nearby waterfront park for a rally supporting offshore wind power and other renewable energy sources. Put your creativity hat on and get ready to join us!

As an added bonus, we’re offering free Moving Planet t-shirts to everyone who signs up five or more friends before September 24th. Email the names to Keith at keitht@chesapeakeclimate.org and you’ll help build the movement and get a cool souvenir from this day of action.
